What is a Research Guide?

The librarians at Garnett Library have implemented a way to organize and showcase library resources and services available to our students, faculty, and staff for research and study.

Research Guides are a content management and information sharing system designed specifically for libraries. The platform allows for easy navigation through and instruction on core and relevant resources in a particular subject, course, or assignment. This platform also effectively invites collaboration between librarians and faculty to meet the research needs of a particular department, course, or assignment.

Why use Research Guides?

A well-designed Research Guide will point to suggested resources and services that support an assignment, course, or subject area.

Research Guides allow us to:

  • Organize core and relevant resources in your field or topic into one 24 hour accessible webpage, simply give your students the url.
  • Anything we create is printable, so it can easily be used as handouts.
  • We can update the information on the page BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER you teach a research or library-related lecture, so students have access to updated material.

Librarians have the option to add several editors to a particular Research Guide, so if you are interested in collaborating with a librarian to create a Course or Subject Guide, please let us know!
